Celebrity Rooms - Nate Berkus & Jeremiah Brent

Located in the Hollywood Hills and featured in the August issue of Harper's Bazaar, the home was designed by John Elgin Woolf in 1939. Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent were drawn to the two bedroom, Regency-style gem for its architectural provenance as they'd long admired the work of Woolf, who counted Katharine Hepburn and Cary Grant among his many celebrity clients. No wonder that interior designer Nate and his fiance Jeremiah fell in love with it.

In Portugal we only know Nate Berkus as Oprah's designer expert but in the US he owns a successful design firm with clients all over the world. He wrote 'The Things That Matter' and has a Target Collection with his signature.

The couple chose a black, white, saddle, and bourbon color scheme and it's all Mad Men and ultramodern. I can't help but imagine the fun they had decorating it because they say  "I think our styles are now becoming one, which is really exciting to see...We fight about pizza, not about picking out lamps."

I just Love that mint green 40's stove and this Mad Man style picture of him and his boyfriend Jeremiah.  They are such a handsome adorable couple!

Weekend shopping - Area (new collection in store)

The other day I went to AREA store with my new assistant and we were blown away by the gorgeous new in store collection . They always manage to surprise us again and again. I have to say I saw it coming because I did a ART deco inspired makeover on the show about 5 months ago... and I also new that 'Mad Men' was going to be all over interior design stores in Europe. But I didn't see all that they have to give to us. They presented us with 4 different and distinctive themes, inspired in the past but all with such a contemporary spirit. Here are the first two and my favorites.

***

ART DECO BLUES
(Definitely my favorite!)
There will be few periods in the history of decorative arts as fertile as the Art Deco. In this collection the area gave a new impetus to this style, dipping it in the blue peacock. The strength of color space expands, and the notes of the thirties of last century, give it sophistication.

ART DECO BLUES
(Definitivamente o meu favorito!)

Remember I talked about this Teal blue some weeks ago?

Love the large scale stripes! *** Adoro as riscas de larga escala!

I've always been in love with this ceiling lamp *** Sempre fui apaixonada por este candeeiro de teto.

I have one of these and I think I'm going to paint it blue!

The small round mirrored table is calling me!!

Midcentury FLAVOUR - from the Mad Men Set (some of my favorite parts)
Area introduces this style with pieces that refer to the ages of 50 and 60 as well as editions of classics of the time, which create living spaces with a refined style and remind us of MAD MEN, the series that made the rounds in the United States, by exercising 50's style.

***

MIDCENTURY FLAVOUR - from the Mad Men Set (algumas das minhas peças favoritas)

I want one of the letters chest for my son's bedroom!!

And the small desk for my living room ** E a pequena secretária para a minha sala.

Please wrap me up one of those mirrors! Thank you! *** Por favor, embrulhe-me um destes espelhos! Obrigada!

like the sofa, the table and the floor lamp...a lot!

I add to my list this chair for my husband's office.

The bookshelves are quite tall and gorgeous! *** As estantes são bem grandes e lindas!

I better stop shopping otherwise by the end of this post I'll be broke!!!
Tomorrow I will show you the other 2, ok?

***

Mad Men's John Slattery Says "Not In My Backyard!"

We Tivo'd last night's season finale of Mad Men and started watching it this morning.  We were on the edge of our bed waiting to hear a final quip from our favorite character, Roger Sterling.  But, as luck would have it, our Tivo ran out of storage space and didn't record the last few minutes!  Oh well!

We decided to spend this morning looking for info about the homes of Roger, er, John Slattery, that is (above). We know this handsome actor is married to actress Talia Balsam--who plays his ex-wife on the show and also happens to be the real-life ex-wife of George Clooney.  We also know that they split their time between New York and Los Angeles.

Looks like they might be spending more time in New York . . . so they can keep fighting!  No, not each other!  They are fighting the city's plans to build a $346 million sanitation department building in their neighborhood.  For more details, check out the Huffington Post article here.

We'll let you know if we find photos.  In the meantime, if you want to get your fix on the homes of Mad Men stars, be sure to read our earlier posts showcasing the homes of John Hamm/Don Draper, January Jones/Betty Draper, and  Bryan Batt/Sal Romano.  By the way, Sal was conspicuously absent from last night's show, but we'd bet money he'll be back!

A Fixer Upper for Mad Men's January Jones?

Yesterday, we saw the home of Jon Hamm, the man behind Don Draper.  Today, we look at the home of the woman behind the woman behind the man Don Draper.  Did you follow that?  Let's try it again:  Today, we look at the home of January Jones, who plays Don Draper's wife Betty Draper on AMC's Mad Men.  This time, we have photos of the inside!

January plays the part of a young and beautiful yet truly "desperate" housewife so effortlessly that it's hard to believe she's even acting.  In our view, that makes her a great actress.

Anyway, she just paid $1.02M for a 2200 sq. ft. mediterranean villa (below) with 3 bedrooms and 2.5 baths.  We guess she wanted to stay close to her TV husband because she just purchased a home near his, as it is also in the Los Feliz area of Los Angeles.

As you can see, her home is nothing like the one she occupies on the show.  More proof that she's not Betty in real life!

Real Estalker and everyone else is referring to this house as a fixer up and at first we agreed.  The only thing we liked was the front door.  Notice the gorgeous fretwork that only needs stripping or a high gloss paint job to bring out its beauty:

Upon closer inspection of some of the other rooms like the living and dining rooms below, we think all that may be needed for them is a good paint job and a new chandelier.  If you ignore the decor of the previous owner, you'll see that it's pretty much a blank slate for January to do whatever she wants:

Granted we haven't seen the bathrooms.  And maybe this kitchen does need serious renovation:

But it's an otherwise light and airy home that doesn't appear to need much except a good interior designer.  Whenever she get's done lobbying Congress to save the sharks (thought we didn't know about that, huh?), let's hope she hires a designer and shows off the end results!

We're Mad for Mad Men's Jon Hamm! Oh Yeah, His House is Nice Too!

We're completely addicted to AMC's Emmy Award-winning show Mad Men.  And Jon Hamm is our drug of choice.  Okay, was that way too Hamm-y?  All we're saying is, Jon is super sexy and seems to be as mysterious as Don Draper, the character he plays on the show.

Jon lives with his longtime girlfriend actress Jennifer Westfeldt in the Los Feliz area of Los Angeles.  Thanks to a lead from one of our favorite new sources Aerial Dave (and a little bit of digging on our own) we know that they own this gorgeous Spanish Mediterranean:

Their home lies on a street lined with equally gorgeous homes.  According to property records, theirs was built in 1923.  Even though it sits on a tiny lot, the home clocks in at a little over 3100 sq. ft. with 5 bedrooms and 3 baths.

Unfortunately for us, Jon and Jen are intensely private.  As far as we know, they have never allowed the press into their lovely home.  So dear readers if you know where we can get our hands on some shots of the interior, please let us know!

Gosh, we haven't even seen the inside and we already love it!

But who are we kidding, we love him! And he knows why! Get a load of this hilarious SNL video, which has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with houses:

Mad Men in Real Life: Bryan Batt at Home

Okay, we watched the season premiere of AMC's Mad Men last night. O-M-G! It was soooo good!!!

Totally racy! Totally sexy! Totally gay!

And, in Bryan Batt's case, totally all of the above!

SPOILER WARNING: Batt (above, right), who plays closeted gay ad executive Sal Romano, gets busy with a hotel bellboy while away on a business trip.

It was all so juicy (not literally!) that we decided to see what we can find out about Mad Men stars' homes.

We ran across this New York Times article from a couple of years ago. Turns out he shares a home in New Orleans with his partner Tom Cianfichi (above, left).

Of course, we dig it! What can we say, it has a stylish vintage flair that has always appealed to us. We love, love, love those painted white chairs in the dining room.

And we especially love the weathered Barcelona chair in the cozy little nook (below). Even the dog looks cool:

Photos by Cheryl Berger for the NY Times.
FYI, Batt and Cianfichi also operate a home decor store in New Orleans called Hazelnut. Cute stuff there too!

Of course, we're still on the hunt for more "Mad Men in Real Life" digs. We'll keep you posted!
