YOUR MAMAS NOTES: This morning we awoke to a brief but informative missive from The Bizzy Boys at Celebrity Address Aerial who snitched to Your Mama that in early May (2013) Scottish-born comedian/late night talk show host Craig Ferguson sold his long-time house in the hills above Los Angeles's historic Beachwood Canyon for, as per property records, $1,740,000. The sale was widely reported by other property gossips but the buyer, stand up comedian/actor Chris D'Elia, was not previously identified, at least as far as we know.
Tall, scruffy, and shaggy haired Mister D'Elia comes from a Tinseltown family—his father is 8-time Emmy nominated writer/producer/director Bill D'Elia*—and is a regular on the stand up circuit. He is probably best known by boob-toob watchers as a pot-smoking frat house denizen on the short-lived Glory Daze and as slouchy internet entrepreneur Alex Green on the also short-lived sit-com Whitney. He's soon to co-star in a new sit-com (Undateable) and a comedy movie Flock of Dudes.
Property records show Mister Ferguson paid $569,000 for the 1930s Mediterranean villa in November 1997 and first hoisted it on the open market in June 2012 with an asking price of $1,995,000. Listing information from the time of the transaction shows the three story canyon and city view property has 2,565 square feet with four bedrooms and four bathrooms, at least two of them with vintage or vintage-style tile work.
The (formal) living room has wood floors, fireplace, beamed ceiling, a tall arched window and glass doors that open to a shaded veranda. There's also, as per listing details, a formal dining room and a spacious country kitchen with skylights, breakfast nook, stained glass windows, high-quality appliances and a glazed brick floor laid in a herringbone pattern. The lower level family room has wood floors, heavy wood beams on the ceiling, and a series of French doors that open to a stone terrace that overlooks the swimming pool, spa, and poolside bar-cabana.
Additional features and amenities include an office area with built-in book shelves, a detached guest suite, indoor laundry room, secured front courtyard, attached two-car garage, and a cutting edge security system.
Mister Ferguson traded up to a privately situated compound with 8 bedrooms and 9 bathrooms spread throughout a handful of Craftsman style structures in the Bronson Canyon area that he quietly scooped up in April 2012 for $4,100,000.
*Since the early 1990s Poppa D'Elia has been a go-to director for a slew of successful television programs including a whole bunch of legal comedies and hospital dramas: Doogie Howser, M.D., Beverly Hills 90210, Northern Exposure, Chicago Hope, Ally McBeal, The Practice, Boston Legal, Grey's Anatomy, and Harry's Law. In the late 1990s he co-created and wrote the family drama Judging Amy and he currently toils on the hospital drama Monday Mornings with Ving Rhames.
