Megan Hess - Fashion House

This week over at Our Little Place I've had a chat to Illustrator Megan Hess
in the People Behind The Book series.

Megan has collected her beautiful illustrations for her book aptly titled Fashion House
and it is the perfect fit for the Our Little Place book shop.

Megan is such a beautiful lady and her work is gorgeous so I wondered
(like most interior obsessed people) what Megan's home would be like.
So after a little investigation I came across this ...

Megan's home is a converted church in Melbourne where she lives with
her architect husband and two young children.

It gets even better as we go into her closet ...

Please pop over and read about Megan in People Behind The Book.

If you'd like to shop for Fashion House, pop over here to the Our Little Place Book Shop.

Can you help me ... Please?

Working on Our Little Place is something I am enjoying so much.
I get lost for hours searching and securing beautiful titles,
only problem is there are sooo many titles I want to buy but I must remain true to
the core values of Our Little Place and that is not to have just a really
high number of inventory and random titles that starts to detract from the
purpose of a beautifully carefully selected catalogue of titles.

But I'm reaching out to you, I'd love to hear what titles you think I should have in the store?

Is there something that I am just missing as apart of the collection?

Should there be a new category of books I should have in the store?

Or is there something I have in the store and you think "What the ... ?" !!

You all are such a stylish group with a love interiors, fashion, travel
and general lifestyle so you are THE people to ask?
Be open and honest as I appreciate all opinions.

So in case you've missed it, click here to go direct to the Our Little Place store.

I would love if you could leave some feedback below or join me on Facebook and leave a comment there.

Thank you all in advance, I can't wait to hear your thoughts

Carine Roitfeld

Thank you for the comments and messages I have received in only one day of launching
Our Little Place, I feel so supported.

Just wanted to share my first real post on the Our Little Place blog

The blog will feature stories on those who author the books Our Little Place sells or if they are about them.
There will always be that common link but not so much as a review of the book itself.

My latest style crush and book obsession is Carine Roitfeld : Irreverant, have you read it yet?
Seriously, such a fabulous book. It's a large format book that has a case that the book slides into.

Our Little Place is Open

Well after months and months of planning and keeping it a little secret, I can finally reveal.

Our Little Place
is open for business!

So what is Our Little Place?
An online bookstore where there is a selection of must have book titles
in the areas of interior design, fashion, travel and lifestyle.
Each and every book is carefully selected and each one has meaning.
If I don't love the book, I won't have it in Our Little Place.
Not only are they full of inspiration through beautiful images
and some words of knowledge they all look amazing in your home.

Let's admit it, we love books, not just to read and get lost in
but to make sure they look amazing in our homes - right?

Why books?
Like many of you I LOVE books, just adore.
I always giggle to myself when people say to me "you're so hard to buy for" because I'm so not,
books are the best gift I can ever receive.

Books allow me to get really lost in the world of interiors and fashion.
Let me go on journey's to places I never been and I love it. It's me time to relax and dream.

I can sit for hours flipping through books.

What else is there?
Additionally to the book store, I've also started a book buying service for clients.
I can source titles that I aren't held in the store - they maybe from different categories,
or gorgeous limited and collectors editions.
I will put a personal catalogue together just for you to start or build upon your collection.
Need to buy a few gifts, I can help put a selection together for you also.

It's early stages yet and there are sooooo many more books
to have in the store and many more categories.
I would love to hear from you if there are any titles in particular that you think
I must have or any categories I should include in my future plans
(yes, food is coming!) please let me know.

Please pop on over and visit Our Little Place to see what's in store.

You can also follow along on the blog

I would love to know what you think!

There will be a lot more to come and I can't wait to tell you more about the journey.

Thank you so much for the support you have shown so far
and a big thank you to my friends and family who have supported me in my dream.

How to arrange books on shelves *** Como arrumar livros nas estantes

Hello blog friends! I know... I know... I should be punished for being so absent from blogging but I've been closing my computer at around two in the morning with so much work. At that time I have no more brains to post, think or write. At that time the only think I manage is to wipe makeup off with one hand, brush teeth with the other and try not to sleep on the rug as I let my body fall dead on the bed! Well there is some great news comming and I will temm you about it latter and in the meantime this post was a request I receive sometime ago. 'how to arrange books on shelves'...

***

Olá Amigos do blog!

1.
Mix books with decorative objects, it will solve that monotony of rows.

***

via zhush
2.

Play with the stacks and put some other horizontally and vertically.

***

3.
Play with book covers and display them by colours,
the result will be more fun.

***

4.

The space for a bookshelf may be less conventional.

***

5.

In children's rooms the bookcases can be decorative and since we are in the world of childhood fantasy, why not take advantage of book covers and turn them to the front instead of stacked or queued.

***

Book Heaven

Look what the postman delivered to me today, just in time for the weekend !!!

The new book by designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard "Live, Love and Decorate"

And I have to say for a coffee table book addict collector like myself,
this is hitting very close to the number one spot of best design books.

It is really good.

The cover features Tamara Mellon's home {and we know we all love her homes!!}. However there are many other great homes in here including celebs Sir Elton John, Cheryl Tiegs, Cher and Kid Rock.
It is a beautiful showcase of his work and a great insight to his signature style.

New Books

The only purchase I made from LV MBS was from the bookstore! I know, I know LV you buy a bag, a wallet.... but it is a new hobby for me when I visit an LV bookstore I will purchase at least one book. I've done it twice from the LV Canton Road store and now MBS. Mmmm I should really head back to Paris just to buy a book from Champs Elysees :)

Here's my latest addition to my growing collection of books :

Morris Lapidus : The Architecture of Joy
Love the work of Morris Lapidus so when I saw this, it was mine.
Think Miami resort hotels of the 50's and you think Morris Lapidus. Very cool.

Kelly Hoppen : Creating a home for the way you live
My second Kelly Hoppen book and I love how she gives an in depth look at her design process accompanied by gorgeous shots of her interiors.
