Mariposa

I love when friends come to town and we venture to many of the great spots
to shop and dine that Perth have to offer.
I did just that when my good friend Clayton of the sweet smelling blog,
What Men Should Small Like came to town.

We made a visit to Mariposa, located in Mt Lawley.
Filled with such a lovely collection of perfume, candles, skin care, cosmetics,
Mariposa is a store I have visited before but to visit with someone who
is so passionate about fragrance was a different experience.

Whilst I like perfumes, I don't have a huge passion for them.
But as we know what I do have is the passion for interiors and this little
tucked away store does not disappoint.

Modern, clean yet warm interior with visual merchandising that is actually really quite easy to
view despite the significant quantities of product. You just want to take your time and
wander and smell and try.

Great selection of Aesop in store, which is great for me as I'm a huge fan.

After trying a number of perfumes (and I mean a lot!) I came across the one above that I really liked.

Not seen in the top overall image of the store, the fixtures and fittings also have beautiful vintage
pieces of furniture and different elements. It's a really well placed combination.

Mariposa is a great inspiration should I one day open up
the Our Little Place bricks and mortar store.

Happy Monday !!

Happy Monday everyone!

I love Monday's as it's my day off.
The weather today in Perth was so, so beautiful so I slept in just a little,
then went for a walk to have brunch at Toast with a friend and catch up.

♥ my neighbourhood

In the afternoon I curled up and read through the latest edition of Real Living magazine
while I caught up on episodes of Keeping Up With The Kardashians (ssshhhh).

I hope you had a great start to your week

Apartment Update ...

I've been in my little apartment for a couple of months now and I forget that it's still early days.
Last night I had my housewarming and introduced my new place to new friends.
They all had really lovely things to say but I kept saying "it's no where near looking how I want it to be"
and their response was stop making apologies for it!
But you, my fellow interiors enthusiasts would understand what I'm saying correct?

It was a big step for me to open up my "unfinished" house at this point,
so I decided to go ahead and post some updated pics of My First Little {Perth} Place for you.

The Living Area ...

The Dining Area ...

It's a shame the big electrical box is on the wall in the dining room (who does that?)
but that's what you get with a rental!

The Bedroom ...

The bedroom, though I want to keep it serene and in the lighter colours I really want to
keep layering this room. Texture, warmth with a small pop of colour.
On the search for things for the wall .... I would love a Juju hat above the bed!

This is my cheapie chest of drawers that I will be swapping out very soon next to my favourite chair.
I'm looking for my inspiration for a cushion for the chair.

The Bathroom ...

Well how do you think it's coming along so far?
Would love to hear any feedback, opinions or advice you may have :)

Empire

Such a lovely day today.
After a lovely catch up brunch with one of my girlfriends at
Cantina on Beaufort St, Mt Lawley we headed to
Empire for some inspiration.

The items I would have snapped up in a heart beat if I could have were ...

So in love with this chair, perfect for the outside or inside. Colour is amaze!

Great setting for outside or on a balcony.

Perfect for a media room. So deep to put your feet up, I would just spend days relaxing on this.

Cute, industrial and colourful

Would love these in an office space

I have no words ... maybe one - love!

I found a good option for the stools for my kitchen bench, wooden top with yellow legs

Sigh for this lamp

Yummy bits and pieces for the kitchen

Loved these ceramic cannisters that look like tin cans

Perth Place - Zekka

So I've been I've been in Perth for 7 weeks now and am quickly discovering many places to eat and drink - coffee mainly, this town loves coffee!

One of my fav spots is Zekka located on King Street. The coffee is good as is the breakfast but it's the interior space and ambience that I love.

You need to enter through the long hallway which has some interesting art installations.

I like the industrial feel but it's also actually very comfortable and cosy.

The service is also really good, nice and friendly for such a busy place.

My week with Instagram ...

Haven't shown you for a few weeks, but this is what I've been up to as seen through Instagram ...

1. Dinner and drinks at Rockpool
2. Another new favourite find for coffee - Zekka
3. Zekka has these really .... interesting installations that can come across as a little creepy but kind of cool at the same time!
4. Perth has these great things call the urban walkabout. It's a map of areas around Perth and highlights cool places to go and eat, see and shop.
5. Drinks (again) with my colleague and friend Lou at Cheeky Sparrow
6. Spotted these cushions this week on the Aria Facebook page - love them
7. Got all into Mercedes Fashion Week via Instagram this week and the hype of fashionista, Elin Kling being in Australia
8. Ok so I found pasties .... you see I'm orginally from Adelaide and grew up eating pasties. When I moved to Queensland I was devastated that Queenslanders don't have them! WHAT! But guess what, Perth does YAY!!
9. Good thing or bad thing, Sass and Bide are located opposite my work!! Love this shot of their dressing rooms, they are very cool.

Apartment Found!

I have found a place - such a relief I can't even tell you.
I was starting to get quite worried about it just by looking and the price of these places.
But I found my place, it was the first one I applied for and got (all whilst I was in Singapore)!!

Here's a couple of sneak pics :

It's new and modern so I'll have to bring the character in
Nice clean sleek kitchen, yes I might start cooking
Bamboo floors
Open space that leads out onto a balcony
It's just on the edge of the CDB and a really nice area. Modern building, brand new really.
Strange thing for me is I have to catch a bus to work!!
This sounds like the norm for many people but for me for the last 10 years or so I have been fortunate to drive to work and it was usually a 10 minute drive to work so jumping on a bus will be an adjustment!!

I still can't move in until the middle of next month.
But that gives me a bit of time to get some inspiration of how I want my new apartment to look as it's a fairly blank canvas.
As I am finding this move to Perth as a new chapter in my life and lots of new beginnings, I think my home should also reflect this.

M.I.A

Hello!
Sorry I have been missing in action but I have been in the process of moving myself to Perth.

I'm about to approach week 3
(even though last week I was in Melbourne so technically only 2 weeks!)
 and I am enjoying it.

Perth is lovely and I think the best way to describe it is there enough going on but not too much.
Lots of great little eating spots and clothing boutiques and the people I have met so far are all so friendly.
And the weather is beautiful at the moment, perfect actually.

But I am feeling a little challenged in finding a home!!! It's not about me being picky (much) but ...
a) there isn't many to choose from
b) it is SO EXPENSIVE!!! It is insane
The vacancy rate is - no wait it's not "vancant" - apparently it's 99.7% FULL!!!!!!
So that is a bit of a stress but I'm positive something perfect will come up soon.

But I'm not have tech problems like I did when I moved to Cairns
so I can at least keep in touch with my blogging, phew!

I'll be back soon

Here I go again ...

Noun 1. Gypsy - a laborer who moves from place to place as demanded by employment.

Ok so maybe not in the traditional sense but I am starting to feel a little bit like a Gypsy.

It was the same time last year I did a similar post - I was moving to Cairns for work.
Well this year I'm moving again, going way out west to Perth.

Initially it wasn't an idea I was too fond of but after much thinking and many discussions, you start to understand the need to open yourself up to opportunities that come before you, both professionally and personally and just go with the flow of why they have come to you!

So it's farewell to the tropics. It's been fun but Perth holds a little bit more for me.
The next 12 months will bring challenges at work, good ones of course but I also get to hang out with friends I haven't seen in ages, go shopping in some gorgeous shops (this is something I've really missed), not just for the shopping experience but inspiration. Oh and I get to have a winter - a true cold winter!

Beautiful Cottlesloe Beach
So I think that means I've lived almost all over Australia - Adelaide, Melbourne, Gold Coast and now Perth .... mmm that leaves only Sydney, maybe that will be next? Or back to Melbourne again? Perhaps I'll just think about the next 12 months of my life in Perth which of course I plan to share with you here.

So the search is on for a new apartment.
One thing I've discovered about Perth is that it's quite an expensive city to live in, so it looks like it's a small apartment for me!

I'll keep you all posted.
