Celeb R.E.: Big Bang Theory Star Kaley Cuoco Purchases Kardashian/Odom Tarzana Mansion

The latest celebrity real estate rumor comes from TMZ on January 25, 2014 who revealed that Big Bang Theory star, Kaley Cuoco and her husband Ryan Sweeting have purchased the Tarzana home formerly owned by Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom who are in the middle of a divorce. Kardashian/Odom first acquired this property for $3,950,000 on December 18, 2009 which if sold at today's asking price would translate into a profit of $1,549,000 before any expenses which is a pretty good return after close to 4 years of living in the home. Its been speculated that Kardashian has already moved back to the mother's nest in Hidden Hills while Odom might be in Florida where he owns another home.

Going back to Cuoco who is no stranger to the SFV as she currently owns a Sherman Oaks home (shown above) that was purchased on November 19, 2010 for $2.4 million and featured 5 Beds/5 Baths on 5,233 sqft on a total lot size of 10,750 sqft built in 2004. Does this mean Kelly will be selling this home in the near future after moving to Tarzana?

Prior to the Sherman Oaks home mentioned above, Cuoco owned another Sherman Oaks home (shown above) that measured 3 Bed/2.5 Bath on 2,171 sqft on a total lot size of 10,510 sqft built in 1937. This home was purchased for $1,355,000 on October 7, 2005 and sold at a $500K loss on August 31, 2011 for $822,500 which was discussed here with more detail.

Back on November 13, 2013, gossip juggernaut, TMZ, revealed that Khloe Kardashian, sister of Kim Kardashian, and her husband, ex-Los Angeles Laker, Lamar Odom were quietly selling their Tarzana home due to a possible divorce. Lo and behold a couple of months later and the always hilarious, Your Mama, at the Realestalker, revealed on January 8, 2013 that Kardashian/Odom officially listed their home on the MLS for $5,499,000 and were in the beginning stages of a divorce confirming the rumors first announced at TMZ. 

The home measures 7 Beds/8 Baths on 8,000 sqft on a total lot size of 0.75 acres built in 2003 in the exclusive guard-gated Mulholland Park. The listing description states:

Braemar Country Club in Tarzana

The cost for Braemar is reasonable compared to other more established Country Clubs (especially on the Westside) if you have the disposal income to support it which most of us dont. However, the folks at Braemar are genuine and not stuck up which is commonly associated with the Country Club scene. The course is beautiful, challenging, and serene. Almost dont feel like you are in the urban jungle of the SFV.

Back on November 1, 2013, the always informative Lauren Beale at LAT Hot Property revealed that Gerard Way, lead singer-songwriter for My Chemical Romance and his wife, Lindsey Ann Way aka "Lyn-Z," bass player for Mindless Self Indulgence, have listed their Tarzana home on the market for $1.899 million back on October 30, 2013. The Ways purchased the home in June 15, 2012 for $1.355 million. So after barely living in the home for a year, the Ways have decided to move on. The home is currently in a pending status that if sells at the current asking price, the Ways stand to gain $544,000 before expenses which is damn good for a little over 12 months of living in the home. 

The home measures 5 Beds/6 Baths on 4,803 sqft on a total lot size of 0.67 acres built in 1980. The listing description states:

Gerard's brother, Mike, who is also a member of My Chemical Romance as a bassist, is coincidentally or not selling his Tarzana home (shown above) using the same realtor. The home measures 4 Beds/3.5 Baths on 3,915 sqft on a total lot size of 0.49 acres built in 1956. The listing description states:

Mike Way purchased this property on January 27, 2012 for $1,249,000 which is currently listed at $1,489,000. If sold at this price, Mike stands to gain $240,000 before any expenses which is just as impressive as his brother Gerard's potential gain for living in the home barely over 12 months.  

While researching Mike Way's home in the property records found some interesting history. Mike purchased this home from Robin Prybil who is a visual effects executive with an associate producer credit for the film How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. Prybil purchased this home from an IT company called Poptech, LP based in West Palm Beach, Florida for $1,370,000 on August 30, 2006. 

Poptech, LP purchased this home for $820,000 on August 8, 2002 from Lee (who is a world renowned headache doctor) and Nedra Kudrow who are the parents of Lisa Kudrow from the hit NBC sitcom, Friends. I was able to verify that the Kudrows have owned the home since at least 1993 but its possible they owned it much longer. If so, this may have been the childhood home of Lisa Kudrow considering that she had attended Gaspor de Portola Middle School located just down the street from this home and also Taft High School in nearby Woodland Hills. 

This is all speculation at this point and its hard to verify this information because property records get sketchy and limited going back to the 70's which is when Lisa would have attended those schools, so dont quote me here. I can only hope this info is correct as this would be an amazing find and historical connection to one of the funniest actresses from a hit acclaimed and award winning TV show with a worldwide audience that had a cultural impact during its hey days in the 90's and into the mid 2000's. 

Not sure why the Ways are in a coordinated move to unload their Tarzana homes but hopefully they continue to call the SFV home.

For those who care, you can now buy the Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom mansion in Tarzana according to gossip juggernaut TMZ which was first revealed on November 7, 2013. The reason for the sale is that Khloe is preparing to divorce Lamar and wants to "start fresh and move on." This news probably doesnt come much as a big surprise to the majority of Americans as the couple got married after only 30 days of courting back in 2009 and more recently with Odom's drug troubles probably adding tension to a complicated and demanding marriage that is constantly in the public life. It seems that family reality shows tend to drive families apart at the end of the series. 

The home measures 7 Beds/8 Baths on 8,347 sqft on a total lot size of 0.75 acres built in 2003 and was purchased on December 18, 2009 for $3,950,000. Khloe is reportedly asking for $4 million . If sold at that price, the total profit would be $50K that will easily be absorbed with closing costs at $240,000 assuming a 6% rate. So there is going to be a considerable loss here not taking into account other expenses. But $240K is like pocket change for this famous couple.

A. Quincy Jones Mid Century Modern Home in Tarzana Hits The Market

4 Beds/2.5 Baths on 2,160 sqft on a total lot size of 0.33 acres built in 1961 by A. Quincy Jones in Tarzana currently available for $849,000. The home is owned by the late Jaroslav "Jerry" Gebr who is an accomplished artist, painter, sketch artist, and illustrator working for over 50 years starting with 20th Century Fox, followed by MGM Studios, and then Universal MCA Film/Television Studios working up until 2008 with his last credit on 24: Redemption. Gebr's extensive resume can be viewed at IMDB along with some of his personal works at his website. Additionally, you can view some of his paintings in the listing below. It appears that Gebr possibly owned this home since it was first built and consequently commissioned Jones to design the home so can it be called the "Gebr Residence?" Quincy Jones who was a Los Angeles based architect and educator known for innovative buildings in the modernist style and for urban planning that pioneered the use of greenbelts and green design. He has designed numerous homes and buildings including another similar residence in Tarzana in 1961, the Eichler development in Granada Hills in 1964, the 1961 Case Study House # 24 in Chatsworth (unbuilt), and Campbell Hall School in North Hollywood in 1951.
