Hot off the presses from the always informative Lauren Beale at LA Times Hot Property is an update on former American Idol judge, songwriter, and singer Kara DioGuardi has just sold her Studio City mansion for $6.3 million on December 28, 2012.
DioGuardi has been active in the music industry since 1999 with a smorgasbord list of accomplishments. There are in fact too many to list for this post that I recommend visiting her Wikipedia page and personal website. However, here is a brief snippet from Wikipedia describing the magnitude of her successes:
DioGuardi has a songwriting catalog of several hundred songs, of which over 307 have been released on major labels worldwide, and over 150 have appeared on platinum selling albums. She has had nearly 50 international charting singles over the course of her career, and her songs have helped propel more than 66 albums into the Top Ten of the Billboard 200. Her songs have been featured in major motion pictures, television shows, film soundtracks, and radio spots, as well as national and international commercial campaigns.
Back to the Studio City home which measures 5 Beds/6.5 Baths on 7,600 sqft on a total lot size of 3.01 acres built in 1923 but I believe renovated in some fashion since then. According the listing:
A French Chateau with contemporary accents, the exquisite, 3 plus acre residence is simply one of a kind from its gated approach to its architectural and design features. Sited to capture city and mountain views, the property boasts flat pastoral greens that include a 50 foot long infinity pool and a separate hot tub. The sleek and sophisticated interiors are accented by the preservation of carefully selected architectural elements preserved from the 1923 original construction, creating a perfect union between the glamour of the roaring 20's and today's modern lifestyle. Nearly every finish throughout was custom designed to provide a truly elegant environment. The Grand Room houses a 23 foot tall stone fireplace and beamed vaulted ceilings. Spacious formal dining room with herringbone walnut floors. Pro-style kitchen with ctr. island and Calcutta Gold marble counter-tops/Ann Sachs tiling. The interior also offers great space for an office, studio or home theatre.
DioGuardi last purchased this home on Jun 1, 2007 for $3.5 million which translates into a massive $2.8 million gain before taxes, commissions, carrying costs, and renovation expenses. This sale price is rather surprising given that it is almost double from when it was purchased near the fall off from the housing bubble hey days. But I dont know the condition of the house when purchased back in 2007 so its possible that there have been numerous upgrades to warrant the higher price.
At any rate, DioGuardi has had difficulty selling this home as it was first listed back on September 24, 2011 for $10 million. Since then the home price dropped to $8,950,000 on June 19, 2012, $7,995,000 on August 3, 2012, and finally $6,995,000 on September 29, 2012. From the original listing price to the sale price, the home has been reduced an amazing $3.7 million.
DioGuardi also owns a Hollywood Hills home North of the 101 Freeway (picture below) that is rather modest with respect to the Studio City mansion. This home measures 3 Bed/5 Baths on 2,736 sqft that was last purchased for $1,199,000 on August 31, 2004. DioGuardi also maintains a home in Prospect Harbor, Maine where she met her husband.
